Explore Nearby Attractions and Local Eateries

Boone and Blowing Rock offer a ton of attractions and local eateries that make the perfect pairing for your day of adventure at HGA. Among our favorites is our neighbor, the historic Tweetsie Railroad, a family-friendly Wild West theme park that's been a hit among visitors for over 60 years.

Just 10-minutes from HGA at milepost 294 on the Blue Ridge Parkway is the Moses H. Cone Memorial Park, featuring the historic Flat Top Estate (now home to the Highlands Craft Guild shop and America's National Parks store) and 25 miles of carriage trials with gentle curves and magnificent views perfect for a leisurely stroll or long run.

Keep heading south on the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Boone Fork Parking Area at milepost 299.9 and access the rugged backcountry trails of Grandfather Mountain State Park. Follow the less steep Nuwati Trail to the dramatic Storyteller's Rock, take in the amazing views of Boone Bowl from the Cragway Trail, or make the push to Callaway Peak (the highest summit in the Blue Ridge) by following the Boone Scout Trail.

And no visit to the High Country is complete without a stop and sit at the Mast General Store. The Valle Crucis location opened in 1883 and continues to be the center of the community, housing a post office and offering coffee on the honor system. The Boone store opened in 1988 and is a major attraction on King St. in downtown Boone.

For a delightful culinary experience post-adventure, local eateries like Bistro Roca, Stick Boy Kitchen, Booneshine, and Mellow Mushroom offer a range of palate-pleasing options.
